James Nachtwey über 9-11
As happened so often in my career, I was running toward a place from which people were fleeing. When I arrived on the scene, the injured were being set down on the sidewalk to receive medical care. The police began to push everyone back, and I went around the block to approach from another side. I was walking past a church and saw both towers billowing black smoke, a rusted cross in the foreground. The symbolism was compelling, and I began to photograph.
